Idaho National Laboratory
In operation since 1949, the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory dedicated to supporting the US Department of Energy's efforts in nuclear and energy research, science, and national defense. INL has 3,900 scientists, engineers, and support staff to carry out INL research. INL's mission is to ensure the nation's energy security with safe, competitive, and sustainable energy systems and unique national and homeland security capabilities. A key objective of the lab is to become a leading clean energy laboratory that is valued as a resource for the region.
The INL offices are located in Idaho Falls and the INL complex and testing facilities occupy 890 square miles in eastern Idaho.
Boise State University
A metropolitan research university of distinction, Boise State University (BSU) is located in the state's capital city. BSU is Idaho's largest research university with an enrollment of approximately 20,000 students. It offers 100 bachelor's programs, as well as 77 graduate degrees and 13 graduate certificate programs. BSU is also the state's fasting growing research university, and external research funding has doubled since 2003.
University of Idaho
Founded in 1889 and located in Moscow, the University of Idaho (UI) is a land-grant institution with 850 faculty and an enrollment of more than 11,000. UI offers more than 140 degree programs and hosts a law school. The graduate school offers 93 Master's, 4 Specialist and 31 Doctoral degrees covering a wide array of academic and research interests. UI receives almost $100 million in research funding annually.
Idaho State University
Located in Pocatello in eastern Idaho, Idaho State University (ISU) offers almost 280 degree and certificate programs and has an enrollment of more than 14,000 students. Founded in 1901, ISU is a Carnegie-classified doctoral research institution. Its seven colleges engage in a broad range of research, teaching and learning in the natural and physical sciences, humanities, performing and visual arts, education, engineering, business, pharmacy, and technology.
